Time to Vote

Welcome to Dry Creek. Now's the time to make your voice heard. I am thinking about what stories to add next to the Dry Creek line-up and I'd value your input. I could do some books centered around the Elkton Ranch (a big ranch with cowboys that has been featured in some of the older Dry Creek books). Or I could add a Hutterite colony near Dry Creek. For those of you not familiar with the Hutterites, they are similar to the Amish people (see photo above). There are over a dozen colonies in Montana so it would be natural for a colony to be established near Dry Creek. What's your preference -- cowboys or colony?

  1. Thanks, Deb, for giving your preference. I do like cowboys, too. We'll see --

  2. Janet,
We have a large Mennonite community in my area. At least one of their congregations is very progressive and it's interesting to see the mix of old and new. It's not unusual to have to wait behind a horse and buggy to use the ATM or to see a woman wearing a bonnet and dress pull a hot pink cell phone from her purse.

I think there are lots of possibilities with adding the colony. But I think I'd still choose cowboys. You can't go wrong with them.

  3. Kara, thanks. I'm leaning in your direction, too. Personally, I love cowboy stories.

  4. I would love to read either the Colony or the cowboys. I personally think the cowboys would be absolutely wonderful. I think they have been mentioned several times and think that it would be wonderful to see them fall in love. I can just picture the whole Dry Creek community when I am reading it. I feel as if I am there and part of a family. I love when I know the characters I am reading about.

  5. Jessiecue -- The third vote is the charm. This is very helpful to me to have the opinions of a few of my readers. I'm thinking cowboys it is! Anyone else like to chime in?

  6. Thank you, Janet, for giving us a chance to comment. I LOVE your Dry Creek characters and often find myself laughing outloud. They are sweet, charming, romantic, and very sincere. Since I've already been wondering about those cowboys, I vote to read the rest of their stories. I'm looking forward to reading your new books! Thanks, Janet Shindoll

  10. I really enjoy the Dry Creek series. I have read every one since Nov 99, An Angel for Dry Creek. I especially liked the Historical Dry Creek. Maybe we could have more of them. I love the cowboys at the Elkton Ranch. Maybe you could join the ranch & the colony. There could be some fun there. Go to it. Keep up the good work. I love to share my books around because of the spiritual message in them. You never know when God will be able to speak to a heart thru one of your stories..Marge

  11. Bree -- Glad you liked Calico Christmas in Dry Creek. I hope you were able to read Mistletoe Courtship -- that was a novella that followed up Calico Christmas with the story of Colter and Virginia. And then I just finished writing another follow-up in a book coming out December. Look for it -- it's a connected novella book that I am doing with Jillian Hart -- two mail-order brides meet on the railroad coming to Dry Creek. Her bride goes to Angel Falls and mine goes to Dry Creek.

  12. Marge -- Thank you! And the cowboys did win in the vote. I just finished the first book in my mini-series (I think marketing is calling it coming home to Dry Creek). It's about three men who grew up on a ranch near Dry Creek and are coming home.
