Last chance for cowboys

Welcome to the Dry Creek blog. We're discussing what kind of books to do next in the series and the cowboys out at the Elkton Ranch are gathering alot of attention. You may remember them in the bunkhouse from the book, Dry Creek Christmas. They hadn't done much for Christmas, as is their usual, but since they had company that year they really decked out their tree. I'm leaning toward the cowboys finding romance with some women from back east. Now why would eastern women be coming to Dry Creek?

  1. Running away from there current and past lives. To get out and find something new. The girl that came looking for her father may have friends that would like to find her. Sorry I can't remember her name its been a while since I read it.

  2. Could be like in our family they are one could be looking for a half brother they just found out about. This is what happened when I found my Mom's 2 half sisters they immediately came out to meet her. My Mom is in her 70's and they had never met so could be something like that.

  3. Jessiecue - the book you're thinking of is A Dry Creek Courtship and the young woman is Jasmine Hunter. Her story comes out in Silent Night in Dry Creek (coming this Christmas) -- and, yes, she does have someone trying to find her. Someone she doesn't want to see --

  4. Deb -- I always like a book with a quest, too -- something the hero or heroine is trying to do or find. Great idea on the half-brother.

  5. How about one of them is starting over after having been arrested and given probation for something she either did or didn't do...? She always loved reading her dad's western novels, and has a built-in sense that when you want to get away from who you have been, you go west.

  6. Hope -- That's a good idea. I always like the starting over theme. Thanks.

  7. Reasons for coming to Dry Creek
    - Anonymity
    - historian/writer doing a book on small town America
    - always dream of living in a big city yet runs out of money
    - no choice has been dumped by boyfriend at the front of the cafe
    - trying to bring tourism to small towns

  8. SketchGirl -- I like all of those reasons and will keep them in mind. I think I'll use a ranching theme for my next three so maybe someone doing a book on ranching.
